InRec - Inclusive Recreation: Your Partner in Inclusion

At InRec, we believe every child deserves to play, belong, and thrive.

Lana, a Registered Physiotherapist with a special interest in pediatrics, has dedicated her career to helping children reach their fullest potential. Her son, Oscar, has a genetic diagnosis with significant developmental delays. In 2022, recognizing a gap in her community for accessible therapy services, Lana founded Oscar’s Place—a children’s rehabilitation centre where kids of all abilities could receive care in a supportive, welcoming environment.

While many children now had access to therapy, Lana noticed that recreational activities, summer camps, and community programs were still out of reach for many families. This became especially clear when she tried to register Oscar for a camp that marketed itself as “all abilities welcome.” yet he was unable to participate in the adapted program as he didn’t meet the minimum advertised requirement of being able to follow 3-step instructions. This experience highlighted a much bigger issue.

Determined to change this, Lana developed inclusive summer camps at Oscar’s Place—play-based and sports camps designed so children of all abilities could participate together. These camps not only created joyful, accessible experiences for kids but also offered parents and caregivers valuable respite.

Realizing the need extended far beyond one centre, Lana partnered with her sister, Sarah, a communications professional. Together, they launched InRec to provide training, resources, and tools that empower recreational leaders, staff, and volunteers to confidently design and deliver programs, activities, and camps where inclusion is more than a statement—it’s a standard.

Today, InRec works with communities, program leaders, and organizations to make sure “all abilities welcome” truly means everyone belongs.
